Primer
The primer is the first coating to be applied in auto paintwork. The primer’s purpose is to work as a protector. It also has leveling functions. The primer is an excelent base for the color to adhere correctly.
The leveling action is extremly important. After the Bodywork job, slight imperfections that are left behind are normal. The primer helps to correct those. Surface defects which at AutoAlgarve are then nullified with art. The primer also has corrosion protection functions. After applying the primer layer, we move to the paintwork’s second phase
Base coat
The base coat is applied after the primer application. This layer contains the visual properties fo color and efects, metallic, pearl etc. This is what is called the paint itself. There are 3 types of car paint: solid, metallic and pearl.
Solid color paint has no effects. This is the easiest type of paint to apply, and was once the most used type of auto paint.
Metallic paint contains aluminium flakes to create a sparkly, granulate effect, generally reffered to as a metallic look. This paint is harder to match due to the paint gun pressure. At AutoAlgarve we fix this problem.
Finally there’s pearl paint. This paint changes color according to the angle that you’re viewing it and it’s the more complex type of all, since it may take up to 7 or 8 different colors to produce the desired effect.

Clear coat
The last layer to apply is the clear coat, a shiny transparent coating. This is the part that remains in contact with the environment. For this reason, the clear coat should be resistent enough to chemical abrasives and should resist as much as possible to the sun and it’s UV rays. At AutoAlgarve we apply a high-quality clear coat that often surpasses the manufacturer’s one.
